Kherki Daula : What is Ahir regiment protest about?

Since February 4, the Ahir community has been on protest in Gurugram, Haryana, near the Kherki Daula toll plaza. The Ahir community wants an Army regiment named after them.

Sanyukt Ahir Regiment Morcha, which includes Ahir community leaders from south Haryana, has organised the protests. The group was registered as a trust in March 2021.

Since February 04, the group has been on an indefinite protest, which it claims will intensify until its demands are met. Consultations with block and panchayat leaders in south Haryana and parts of Rajasthan had led to the decision to hold the indefinite protest, reported The Indian Express.

In view of a proposed protest march, the security measures were strengthened by the police from Kherki Dhaulla toll to Hero Honda chowk of National Highway 48 on Wednesday.

ALTERNATE ROUTES

It has been advised to use Golf Course Road and Sohna Road as alternate routes for vehicles travelling from Delhi.

From Jaipur – all heavy/goods vehicles are advised to take Kundli Manesar Palwal (KMP) from Panchgaon to go to Delhi as well as Faridabad. Also, from Delhi, all heavy/goods vehicles are advised to take Sohna road and KMP,” the statement informed.

“A number of traffic personnel will be deployed at all the major points to divert vehicles. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly,” said Ravinder Singh Tomar, DCP (traffic), Gurugram police.
