He is considered to be the first freedom fighter of India, who raised a rebellion against the British rule in 1750-1756, almost 100 years before the military revolt of 1857. In 1756, his kingdom was captured by the British government to suppress this rebellion. The king and commander Kone took refuge in the forests. Later, as a result of the betrayal of the people of Pathanayaknoor, Kone and seven of his companions were martyred in the struggle against the British at a place called Birangimedu. After the unsuccessful battle of Ettayapuram, Kone escaped with the royal family. The British had taken Kone and his 258 companions captive later. According to historians, the right hand of the soldiers was cut off by the British and the corner was tied with a cannon and blown away.
