UP Elections 2022 Highlights: Over 60 per cent voter turnout recorded till 6 pm in phase 1
2022 Uttar Pradesh (UP) Assembly Election Phase 1 Voting News: Over 60 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 6 pm on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh, where polling was held across 58 assembly constituencies in 11 districts. Polling closed at 6 pm but those already in queue were allowed to vote, Election Commission officials said. The voting percentage might increase by a bit after final figures comes out. There were reports of technical snags in EVMs at some places, but voting was peaceful, they added.
The ministers whose fate will be decided in this phase include Shrikant Sharma, Suresh Rana, Sandeep Singh, Kapil Dev Aggarwal, Atul Garg and Chowdhury Lakshmi Narayan. Other prominent candidates in the fray include Pankaj Singh, BJP’s state vice president and son of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, late BJP MP Hukum Singh’s daughter Mriganka Singh and Samajwadi Party candidate Nahid Hasan, who was arrested on January 16 under the Gangster Act.
